All schools in Oxfordshire with children from Reception to Year 9 can participate in Young Art Oxford. If you would like your school to participate please register by clicking on the link below to send us an email.
Only £2 per picture entry! The entry fee for children's pictures should be collected by their participating school. Just one entry per child. Pictures need to be ready by February Half-Term holiday and our team will collect all entries and entry fees and forms from each school shortly after February Half-Term holiday. Entries are placed into one of four age categories. Each category is is judged by one of our team of judges. To ensure accessibility and fairness across the variety of schools who enter the competition, we apply a "ratio" approach to the first stage of selection with 1 in 5 pictures from each entered school being selected to appear in our exhibition held in May. This means that, as long as a school provides at least 5 entries in an age category, they are guaranteed to have at least one picture displayed at the exhibition.
From this selection, 1st - 3rd Prize winners from each age category are chosen by the judges. We also award a number of Commended and Highly Commended awards.
Our judges accept all feasible interpretations of the competition's theme, which changes each year. The theme for this year is on the Home page of this website.
Schools are notified of their successful entries shortly after judging and each successful entry will receive an individually named certificate, which are all sent to schools.
The 1st Prize Winners also get their winning pictures framed and all 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners receive prizes, awarded by the judges at a Prize Giving Ceremony on the opening day of the Exhibition.
The exhibition is held at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford in May
After the event pictures need to be collected by a school representative on a set day in the week following the exhibition.
It is also possible to buy merchandise (cards, prints, etc) from us of all exhibited artworks.
What schools should do Register for entry by emailing Young Art Oxford. Each school must make sure that ALL pictures are labelled correctly and the entry fee and permission forms are collected from parents. Permission forms should be retained by schools. Submissions should be accompanied by a summary form. Ensure that pictures conform to our rules - particularly those regarding size and type of paper. See our Rules page for the terms of entry. Schools need to send us a list of names (first and last names) of all their pupils who have entered. This should be sent as an Excel spreadsheet.
What schools shouldn't do Please don't apply any form of pre-selection to your entries. As we apply quotas to the first stage of selecting, the more entries you submit, the greater the number of pictures from your school that will appear in the exhibition. Use the form provided on the contact us page if you have any questions or would like to get involved. Please contact us if there is a problem preventing your participation - we may be able to help you out.
Not a school? It is possible to enter your child's or art group's work. Please visit the page below for further information.
